A Heart Kind of Happy

Today at school made my heart sing. I still had to pull discipline cards. I still had to scold them a bit for being off-task during the math lesson that they do not yet understand. But still, they made me happy deep in my soul. I love them all. Really I do. They were silly today, asking if they could please come to my wedding, do the flowers for our wedding, come home with me after school, live at my house for the summer. And then there were our pen pal letters.

My awesome boss from when I was an R.A. is helping me coordinate college students as pen pals for my students. I was so thrilled at her offer and bummed when my host teacher wasn't half as excited as I was. When I was in elementary school, I lived for letters from my pen pal! So I set the program up anyway. When I passed out their "mail" this morning, their eyes lit up! It was truly wonderful to see and made me giddy inside. Every single child engaged in reading their letter and then in writing a response. They asked me great geography questions, spelling questions, letter formatting questions, and more. It was fabulous.

After school, Richard and I registered at Target. We registered for most things at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, so some of the things on our Target registry are out there. We
want all of these things. We need few of them. So that is exciting.

Then, the best news of the night. My fiancee is amazing, as I have told you. He is the reason that the national alternative breaks non-profit, Break Away, is hosting one of their three national conferences in Michigan, right at our university! I kid you not, this man is a phenom! He wrote an amazing proposal and now, for the first time, Michigan will get to host a conference. This is so amazing because Michigan is a hub for strong alternative break programs. And we both love AB. And to top it off, the conference will be in early August, meaning our wedding will be over and we will be available to help.

Amazing man. Simply a Godsend.

Thank you to Sidewalk Prophet for these words, which have gotten me through the past few weeks--

"Be strong in the LORD and,
Never give up hope,
You're going to do great things,
I already know,
God's got His hand on you so,
Don't live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don't forget why you're here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say"
